Born in 1972, a staff writer for Gazeta Wyborcza, he also collaborated with Animal Planet. In his articles, he concentrates on environment protection and animals, which have been his passion from his childhood. An activist fighting to protect Poland’s ancient woodlands, he has been living in Teremiski in the Białowieża Forest for 20 years. In 2005, Time magazine named him one of the European Heroes. For his campaign to save the unique Rospuda valley, he received the Andrzej Wojciechowski award. The European Voice daily from Brussels named him one of the 50 people to have influenced Europe in 2007. In 2019, he received the Andrzej Wajda award and PEN Ksawery Pruszyński Award. He has written several books on wildlife: Wilki, Wielka księga prawdziwych tropicieli, and Kuna za kaloryferem (with wife Nuria Selva Fernadez). As he likes to ski around the world, he has participated in polar journeys to Svalbard and Greenland.
